Singapore to host six-nation netball championship end August

Singapore will host a six-nation championship from August 31st to September 6th at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall. Joining Singapore at the Fisher & Paykel Nations Cup will be Botswana, Northern Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Sri Lanka. This will be the most challenging opposition Singapore has faced since the 2007 World Championships last November in New Zealand.

Singapore thrash Sri Lanka to secure third spot in Asian Hockey Federation Cup

Singapore beat Sri Lanka 4-0 last Sunday to capture 3rd place in the 2008 Asian Hockey Federation Men's Cup. The Singapore team had qualified for the semi-finals after beating Chinese Taipei 3-0 and holding Uzbekistan and Bangladesh to draws. They finished off the preliminary round games with an 8-0 demolition of Brunei.

Our best athletes honoured at Singapore Sports Awards

Singapore honoured 60 outstanding athletes and coaches last night at the Singapore Sports Awards with paddler Gao Ning and swimmer Tao Li named the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year respectively. Jonathan Koh of Raffles Junior College picked up the Sportsboy of the Year award while Jazreel Tan of the Singapore Sports School was named Sportsgirl of the Year. The national football team were named Team of the Year for the second year running while coach Raddy Avramovic picked up the Coach of the Year award.

SSC chief Oon Jin Teik urges public to rally behind Olympic athletes

The Singapore Sports Council (SSC) has organised a series of events to rally the nation's support for Team Singapore athletes going to the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth & Sports (MCYS) officially launched the first Olympic best-wishes campaign as Guest of Honour at the IMM Mall earlier this month.

Golfer Lam Chih Bing gets support from OAAG for British Open attempt

Golfer Lam Chih Bing was presented with an $8,000 cheque from OAAG to cover the cost of his trip to the UK where he will compete at the British Open with the best in the world at Royal Birkdale. OAAG is now into its second year of sponsoring Chih Bing who is Singapore’s number two golfer and plays on the Asian Tour.
