Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 — Anderson Junior College (AJC) strolled past Dunman High School (DHS) 37–20 in the second round of the A Division Boys Basketball Championship. Han Jun Seo (AJC #5), Liang Bingxin (AJC #14) and Tay Kai Xian (DHS #10) led all scorers with 8 points apiece.

This win puts AJC second in Group Q with a 1–0 win–loss record behind Hwa Chong Institution. DHS fall to third in the group with a 0–1 record.

The first quarter saw AJC come out with the game plan of denying DHS from driving into the paint. This strategy worked well, as DHS had to settle for jump shots that all missed. Tee Chai Sim (AJC #15) made a great highlight play on the break. He whipped the ball around his back, before spinning around his marker to make the lay up.

DHS’s offence start to find some modicum of success in the second quarter, as they scored six points. But AJC were able to shut them down in the paint completely in the half court set. AJC tried to extend the lead, but their finishing was horrendous as they missed a lot of shots at the rim.

By the third quarter, AJC were able to build a comfortable 13-point lead. Sherman Soh (AJC #8) showed great basketball IQ by executing a nice backdoor cut that went unnoticed by the DHS defence. He was able to convert the easy basket. DHS had a moment to savour when Liau Ming Shun (DHS #11) nailed a deep three-pointer, drawing cheers from his teammates.

The final quarter was all cruise control for AJC, as they looked to put the game out of reach of DHS. Tay Kai Xian (DHS #10) had a nice scoring sequence, putting up four straight points for his team. However, that came too late for DHS, as AJC came away with the 37–20 win.
