Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, Saturday, April 7, 2012 — The dance team of Bendemeer Secondary School outperformed three other finalists to emerge champions in the final of the annual Danceworks! competition.

The team, named The Street’s Addiction, stood out with a radiant performance that wove choreography, music and theatricality into a warm and compelling story.

Held annually since 1999, DanceWorks! is one of Singapore’s biggest dance competitions and enjoys a loyal following among youth in Singapore. The competition is organised by the National Council Against Drug Abuse and the Central Narcotics Bureau, and aims to promote an active drug-free lifestyle.

A total of 52 teams took part in Category II of the competition, for youth aged between 13 and 17 years. After two preliminary rounds, the four teams with the highest scores from across both rounds moved into the final round.

1st place: Bendemeer Secondary School (Team name: The Street’s Addiction)
2nd place: Juying Secondary School (Team name: Freshest Nutz)
3rd place: ACS (Barker Road) (Team name: Century Breakers)
4th place: Fajar Secondary School (Team name: Free Swag)

Energizer Hi-Energy Award: Juying Secondary School (Team name: Freshest Nutz)
Pokka Most Sparklin’ Dancer Award: Noor Effendy B Abdul Razak, Juying Secondary School (Team name: Freshest Nutz)
