Presbyterian High, Tuesday, March 6, 2012 — Xinmin Secondary held off Fairfield Methodist to win 2-0 (25-18, 25-21) in a top of the table clash at the National B Division Boys’ Volleyball Championship.

Xinmin finish on top of Group D while Fairfield finish in second place. Both teams are through to the second round.

Xinmin encountered a shaky start as they saw Fairfield take the lead. A time out by Xinmin at the 9-6 mark allowed them to reorganise.

They soon leveled the score 10-10, but Fairfield pulled ahead once again to lead 18-12.

This time, Xinmin staged a spectacular comeback as they held Fairfield at the 18-point mark for 13 consecutive points to take the set 25-18.

Xinmin kept up their momentum in the second set and held on to a narrow lead over Fairfield. Fairfield tried all means to keep the rallies tight as they fought hard to keep the score close.

Xinmin continued ahead with the lead, prompting Fairfield to call a time out at the 18-14 mark. A lapse in concentration by Xinmin quickly allowed Fairfield to draw within one point of them to trail 19-20, prompting a time out by Xinmin.

The score continued to be close, but Xinmin pulled a fast one over Fairfield after the 21-20 mark to establish a 24-21 lead. They made full use of their advantage and promptly sealed the set 25-21.
