CCAB, Thursday, August 21, 2009 – Queensway Secondary thrashed Woodlands Secondary 7-0 to win the girls’ C Division Football Championship title.

In their previous meeting during the tournament, Queensway had edged Woodlands 3-2 and both schools had finished top two in the table. However, what was supposedly an even match turned out to be a devastating 7-goal loss for Woodlands as they were hapless against the attacking trio of Elly (#8), Nur Farhana (#11) and Nur Azirah (#8).

It was an exciting start with Woodlands landing the first attempt at goal which was quickly picked up by Queensway keeper, Kate and Elly (Queensway, #1) replied with an attempt. Elly threatened again after receiving an incisive pass from her team-mate Farhana (#11) but the defender was quick to read it and got behind her to prevent her from turning.

Just as it looked set to be a nil-nil draw, the attacking trio from Queensway got their engines revved up. A Farhana (#11) pass to Azirah (#8) was laid off for Elly (#1). A stepover found Elly free from her defender and she passed the ball back to Azirah who was in the perfect position to score the first goal of the match.

Elly (Queensway, #1) then dribbled down the span of the field to cross to Azirah (Queensway, #8) and Azirah used her thigh to guide it into goal.

Their opponents Woodlands weren’t giving up yet, and it a Syaza (Woodlands, #15) try and forced Queensway keeper Kate to come up with a beautiful save.

Woodlands continued to threaten through their small but fierce striker Fatin (#14) who was fed continually by high balls from Syaza (Woodlands, #15).

Some good defending by Hamimah (Woodlands, #7) who cleared a powerful shot unleashed by Farhana (Queensway, #11) ensured the score remained at 2-0 at half-time.

Azirah (Queensway, #8) completed her hat-trick when she met a cross from Elly (Queensway, #1) to make it 3-0.

A series of passes by the attacking trio then ended in a fourth goal by Azirah again.

Having set Azirah up for the first four goals, it was Elly who claimed the 5th goal. By this point, it was all downhill for Woodlands as they were at the mercy of Queensway's attackers.

Elly missed the next two attempts, and her third one was deflected into Farhana's path who made not mistake to make it 6-0.

Once again, it was Elly (Queensway, #1) creating a goal as she passed to Farhana (Queensway, #11) who hit it first-time into the back of the net under the outstretched leg of Woodlands keeper, Atikah to make it 7-0.

Elly of Queensway finished the tournament as top scorer with 18 goals and was crowned the championship’s Most Outstanding Player. Queensway finished as undefeated champions.
