Victoria Junior College Field, Thursday, April 30, 2009 – Victoria Junior College edged past Innova Junior College 2-1 to qualify for the semi-finals of the boys’ A Division Football Championship.

VJC started off badly and Innova gave them all sorts of problems and it was no surprise when the underdogs scored through a free-kick from John (#19).

VJC were stung into action and replied within five minutes when they equalised straight from a corner.

In the second half, Innova almost snatched the lead when an attempt from John hit the post before Alex (#10) finally scored the winning goal with five minutes left to put VJC through to the semi-finals.

In the other Group A game played at the same venue, St. Andrew’s Junior College beat Anderson Junior College 1-0 to also confirm their semi-final place.

Obviously the better side, SAJC scored their only goal in the dying moments of the first half. A good passing movement to the flank saw a final cross that was put away for a 1-0 lead.

Showing that they are most dangerous from set pieces, SAJC continued to threaten AJC as well in open play but could not find a second goal though they hit the post twice in the second half.

SAJC’s captain and best player was sent off with three minutes left, a decision that will impact the team in the semi-finals.

N.B. If you know the names of the players who scored, please let us know and we’ll update the story. Thanks.
