Vivian Tang is Singapore’s fastest female marathoner and sets new PB to boot

The minute she started jumping up and down after finishing the race, something was up. The last time Vivian Tang finished a race, the Women 10K, she was exhausted, head down, and muttering about being slow (it turned out the 10km was 400m longer). This time, she had enough energy after 42km to do a victory jig.

With 50,000 signing up for the Singapore Marathon, you might not actually be running

Singapore Marathon
The organisers of the upcoming Singapore Marathon are understandably over the moon that 50,000 folks have signed up to run the various distances (42km, 21km, 10km). While it will all make for lovely crowd shots of packed streets and bring in a conservative estimate of S$1.5 million in registration fees alone (assuming a $30 per head), runners may end up being walkers for part of the route.

Singapore Marathon gets double the money. Do we get double the space?

The organisers of the Singapore Marathon received a sponsorship funding boost earlier this week when Standard Chartered Bank nearly doubled the sponsorship fee from S$1.05 million to S$2 million for this year's version of the Singapore Marathon. In 2002, there were only 6,000 runners at the event. Last year, the numbers hit 40,000.
