Fighting fatigue from extra time, waterlogged conditions and a resurgent Hong Kah (HK) team, Queensway Secondary’s Gur Roshan Singh dribbled almost half the length of the field before coolly chipping the winning goal for Queensway Secondary’s first ever title.
Queensway have their striker Farhan (QS #9) to thank for their place in the final as he starred in their 2-1 victory over Spectra.
The win meant Queensway finished Round 1 with a 2-1 win-loss record and a spot in Round 2 after finishing second in Group D.
Queensway Secondary claimed the championship title after seeing off Woodlands Secondary in two straight regu matches (2–0, 2–0).
(QTSS #13) had a game high of 19 points while (#7) and (#17) from Queensway led their team to victory with 13 points each.
Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) defeated Queensway Secondary 62-25 to end Queensway’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals of the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
Neck-and-neck in the final 10 metres, Thiruben's sprint garnered enough momentum to propel him ahead of Singapore Sports School's Raushan, edging the latter out to the gold medal by a mere four hundredths of a second.
This is Queensway's first gold medal in this division. They came in third for the last two years.
