SAFRA AVventura introduces new challenges to cater to novices and families

Tough and gruelling. Expect the unexpected. These are two phrases that many have used to describe Singapore’s largest x-terrain adventure race, the SAFRA AVventura. The event was so tough that some participants could not even complete the challenging 51km race route on foot, bike and kayak earlier this year.

Julie Ong and Sim Phei Sunn were two Singaporean endurance athletes who recently took part in The North Face 100 Singapore race. Phei Sunn and Julie competed in the 100km Duo Women's Category where they came in second place and were the only Singaporean team on the podium.

‘Relax' pair clinches bronze in tough adventure race

They called their team ‘Tas Lepak’, which means ‘relax’ in Malay, but Ngee Ann Polytechnic pair Tiong Jia Hui, 18, and Ryuta Teo, 19, sure did not have an easy time clinching the third place in the Youth Mixed Category in one of the toughest adventure races held in Singapore in middle of January – the SAFRA AVventura, Rough Ramble.

Record 372 participants compete in one of the toughest adventure races in Singapore – the SAFRA AVventura, Rough Ramble

Participants of the SAFRA AVventura, Rough Ramble had to run, bike, kayak, scale a towering 25m rope ladder, sport climb, rope ascend, abseil down rugged slopes with their bikes slung over their shoulders, and clear a jungle trail and water crossing in one of the toughest adventure races held in Singapore.
