Bishan Stadium, Thursday, March 20, 2017 — Elizabeth-Ann Tan waltzed to her second-straight 80m hurdles title, winning in commanding fashion, though the Nanyang Girls’ High School sprinter failed to lower the championship record she set last year.

She clocked 12.52 seconds in the final against a headwind of 0.7 metre/second, shy of her championship record 12.07s. Ho Zhi Xuan from CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School claimed the silver with 13.29s, while Singapore Sports School’s Rachel Tan finished third with 13.89s. The hurdles finals were held over from Tuesday afternoon, when thunderstorms wiped out most of that session’s events.

“I’m satisfied, but it could definitely have been a lot better,” said Elizabeth. “I’ve been trying to get my lead leg down faster, so that’s the goal coming into this race.”

Just hours later, she set the fastest time in the 100m semi-finals with 12.71s, which was a new electronic-timed C Division championship record. 90s schoolgirl sprint queen Lim Joo Lee, then of Raffles Girls’ School, still holds the record with her hand-timed 12.6s.
