Bishan Stadium, Thursday, April 20, 2017 — Elizabeth Liau of CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School clinched the B Division girls’ 3000 metres gold at the 58th National Schools Championships, clocking a personal best of 11 minutes 22.7 seconds.

Vera Wah of Cedar Girls’ clocked 11:29.14 to finish second, while Clarice Lau of Nan Hua High School came in third in 11:37.58.

Elizabeth’s win adds to the national schools cross country title she won last month. She had also won both cross country and 3000m titles last year in the C Division.

Recollecting her post-race thoughts, the Secondary Three student said, “The weather today was very hot, and the group of competitors that I had was very strong, so it was quite pressurising.”

“The projected times I was supposed to run is faster, but I guess it’s still a good time.”

Despite clocking a personal best, Elizabeth said her run fell short of her own expectations.

She explained, “My teacher-in-charge gave me a timing to hit per round. I was supposed to be faster than this.”

Elizabeth’s next event is the 1500m next Monday, where she will aim to clinch a hat-trick of titles.
