Hougang Sports Hall, Friday, March 31, 2017 — Victoria School (VS) defeated Catholic High (CH) School 4-3 in Round 2 of the National B Division Floorball Championship.

With this win, Victoria improve to a 8-1 win-loss record since Round 1 with their sole loss against Meridian Secondary. They advance to the semi-finals as second-place finishers from Group X.

However, Catholic High drop to a 6-1-3 win-draw-loss record and missed out on the semi-finals.

The first period started off with Victoria strongly on the offense but found themselves firing high. Catholic High found themselves constantly trapped in Victoria’s two-on-one defence.

Muhammad Ihsan (VS #63) finally scored the opening goal to break seven minutes of stalemate.

However, goalkeeper Shaun Tay (VS #88) allowed Yun Wei Zhang’s (CH #16) shot to slip through his fingers into goal.

Victoria were able to lose their defenders easily but they wasted their chances, and the period ended at 1-1.

In the second period, Muhammad Ammar (VS #62) scored to give Victoria a 2-1 lead.

Playing off teammates Muhammad Ammar (VS #62) and Muhammad Ihsan (VS #63), Darius Poh (VS #67) then scored to make it 3-1.

It could have been worse for Catholic High as Goalkeeper Jing Jie (CH #32) used his size to deny four of his rivals’ shots.

Cheang Jia Qing (CH #83) managed to get one for his team to help Catholic High end the second period trailing 2-3.

In the last period, Muhammad Ihsan (VS #63) took the initiative with a straight ball into the top corner of the goal for a 4-2 lead.

However, Cheang Jia Qing (CH #83) was quick to capitalise and score after his goalkeeper threw the ball near to his opponents’ goal.

Goalkeeper Shaun Tay (VS #88) then rejected three attempts to help Victoria secure the 4-3 win.

Victoria captain Darius Poh (VS #67) said, “The first and second period weren’t really that good. We weren’t playing that hard but we were still okay. It was not really our best form. That was why the scores were close during the two periods.”

“There are definitely still improvements before the next game such as co-operating together as a team. We have been improving throughout all the games from the beginning. We hope to be more fired up for the next game.”
