Hougang Sports Hall, Friday, March 31, 2017 — Bukit Merah (BM) Secondary defeated Greendale (GD) Secondary 9-0 in Round 2 of the National B Division Floorball Championship.
With this win, Bukit Merah improve to a 6-4 win-loss record while Greendale drop to 4-5.
Both teams did not advance to the next round.
Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) scored the first goal with a quick backhand shot within the first 15 seconds. Bukit Merah pressure forced Greendale behind the half court line.
An assist by Navin Kumaran (BM #13) led to Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) scoring the second goal.
Greendale were quick to defend and stopped their opponents from further scoring until Muhammad Zaidan (BM #19), exploiting a loophole, shot in from half court to pull away with the 3-0 lead.
The scoring continued into the second period, with Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) making it 4-0.
Greendale were either firing high or passing out of bounds.
It was not long before Ng Yong Jie (BM #7) shot in a lucky goal from mid-court for a 5-0 lead.
Down to the last period, Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) yet again fired in an early goal within the first 15 seconds.
Despite the disadvantage, Greendale still fought on as they hustled and prevented shots with their legs.
Tan Shao Siang (BM #10) then got his name on the scoresheet before teammate Benjamin Cheong (#24) brought the ball around the post and scored with a backhand to stun the keeper to make it 8-0.
Gabriel Tan (BM #12) sealed the game with a final goal.
Bukit Merah’s captain Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) said, “My team played well and we played as a team. We followed instructions from our coach and we were disciplined.”
“We were patient and we made them (Greendale) play to our tempo. However, during the first period, we didn’t play hard enough but subsequently in the next two periods, we woke up and played all out.”
