Clementi Sports Hall, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 — North Vista Secondary (NV) dominated Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) (FM) 90-44 in the quarter-finals of the National B Division Basketball Championship.

With this win, North Vista are currently perfect with a 4-0 win-loss record. They will play against Unity next.

On the other hand Fairfield Methodist have a 2-2 win-loss record. They will be up against Woodgrove next.

Fairfield Methodist got to a quick start with Carl (FM #22) getting the hoop and the harm. He completed the three point play to give Fairfield Methodist the three point lead.

North Vista retaliated in a hurry, scoring a quick transition two.

However, Fairfield Methodist answered as Jingkai (FM #7) sank a three point shot to bring the lead back up to four.

Ye Hui (NV #7) not wanting the lead to extend drove in and drew a foul. While he missed both free throws, he got his own miss for the put-back basket to cut the lead Fairfield Methodist had.

Despite that, Fairfield Methodist played on calmly and managed to score again.

Unfazed Sim Yi (NV #5), made a wide open three to cut the lead to one.

As North Vista got into a groove, they upped their defensive intensity and managed to score off turnovers they forced.

North Vista managed to catch up and led 21-20 after the first quarter.

Fairfield Methodist started the second quarter with Shengde (FM #15) drawing a foul. He went on to make both free throws which gave Fairfield Methodist the lead back.

However North Vista made two quick baskets to get the three point lead.

Fairfield Methodist answered with a three to tie things up.

However Lim Joe Yang (NV #21) scored a three on the ensuing basket to give North Vista the lead back.

North Vista got to work by increasing their defensive intensity with their full court press.

Not used to the increased defensive intensity, Fairfield Methodist fumbled on several possessions leading to turnovers.

North Vista capitalized on these turnovers as they converted them into several fast-break points. North Vista outscored Fairfield Methodist 16-5 as they led 37-25 at the end of the half.

North Vista’s defense proved too much for Fairfield Methodist to handle. They continued to rack up turnovers from Fairfield Methodist and converted them into points to extend their lead.

North Vista outscored Fairfield Methodist 19-7 in the third quarter.

While Nicholas (FM #11) got hot and made three three-point shots in the fourth, his valiant effort was not enough as North Vista continued to score at will.

North Vista ultimately secured the 90-44 victory over Fairfield Methodist.

Captain of North Vista, Ye Hui (NV #7), said, “I think we started playing more aggresive and more alert from the second quarter onward. First quarter, we kind of haven’t wake up yet which gave them easy basket and opportunities.”

“It’s the second round, so we didn’t want to take any chances so we just kept playing until the final buzzer.”

“If we continue playing our defense like how played the past few matches, I think we stand a good chance.”
