Anglican High, Monday, February 27, 2017 — Dunman Secondary (DS) handled the pressure from Dunman High (DH) well and went on to secure the 49-32 victory in the the semi-finals of the East Zone B Division Basketball Girls Championship.

With this win, Dunman Secondary will move on to the finals where they will face Chung Cheng High School (Main).

On the other hand, Dunman High will fight for the third and fourth placing against Anglican High.

Both teams started the game cold. Their shots and open lay-ups were not falling. However, Dunman Secondary were hustling harder than Dunman High. They were able to get many offensive rebounds to give them second and third opportunities.

With these second and third opportunities they got from their hustling, Dunman Secondary were able to score points off them.

Dunman Secondary outscored Dunman High 13-3 in the first quarter.

Despite that, Dunman High fought back. They upped their defense intensity, affecting Dunman Secondary’s shots. With their defense, they limited Dunman Secondary to only four points in the second quarter.

However, as Dunman High’s poor shooting performance continued, they only managed to score seven points.

The first half ended with Dunman Secondary up 17-10.

While their defense was working, Dunman High lacked the stamina to sustain it. Their footwork started to get sloppy and Dunman Secondary capitalized on their lapses in defense to score.

Captain Doo Jia Qi (DS #6) of Dunman Secondary led her team with a game-high 11 points as Dunman Secondary cruise to a 49-32 victory over Dunman High.

Jia Qi (DS #6) said, “We ran back on our defense which was an improvement. We also improved on our rebounding getting many baskets due to our rebounds. I am confident in our next game against Chung Cheng (main) but cannot be over-confident. We need to work more, pressure out and don’t let them drive by closing the door. I am confident in my team.”
