Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, February 8, 2017 — Holy Innocents’ (HI) High School made a comeback in the final two periods to beat Kent Ridge (KR) Secondary 5-1 in the National B Division Floorball Championship.
The win improved Holy Innocents’ to a 1-1 win-loss record. They had lost their opening game 0-15 to Orchid Park Secondary.
For Kent Ridge, this is their third consecutive loss of the season.
Cloe Wong (#13) and Liew Jing Yi (#75) had two goals each to lead their team to the win.
The first period saw Aye Mya Thansin (KR #7) score the first goal of the game. The rest of the period was riddled with unsuccessful Holy Innocents’ attempts even as most of action was in the Kent Ridge half.
Cloe Wong (HI #13) scored the equaliser, launching the ball from the side to catch the Kent Ridge goalkeeper off guard.
From then on, Holy Innocents’ buffeted Kent Ridge with powerful shots, and set up a strong defense, preventing shots from entering the net.
Qaisara Batrisyia (HI #27) nearly scored a goal, with the ball brushing up against the goal before being deflected.
Sharelene Chia (HI #72) scored the go-ahead goal when she controlled a rebound and hit the ball into the net before the goalkeeper could react, giving her team a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period.
In the final period, Holy Innocents’ playing aggressively and scored another three goals to secure their victory.
Yasmeen Nawwwarah (HI #16), the Holy Innocents’ captain, said, “Communication has improved this time round compared to the previous game, and I think that the loss previously against Orchid Park motivated us and made us more determined to come back stronger.
“Something that we could work on would be our shooting; we had so many opportunities that went to waste and I believe that we can do so much better next time round.”
