Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, February 8, 2017 — Bukit Merah (BM) Secondary defeated Hillgrove (HG) Secondary 7-0 in the National B Division Boys Floorball Championship.

With this win, Bukit Merah have a 3-1 win-loss record after also defeating Kent Ridge 9-2, and School of Science and Technology 25-1. They lost 6-8 to Raffles Institution.

Bukit Merah will play Loyang next and have to win to advance into Round 2 of the Championship.

On the other hand, Hillgrove have a 0-3 win-loss record after defeats by Loyang (1-8) and Raffles Institution (2-19), and a draw with Kent Ridge (3-3). Hillgrove will play School of Science and Technology Singapore next.

Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) had a game high of four goals.

The first period started with Bukit Merah cutting through Hillgrove’s defence several times. A long range, powerful shot from Muhammad Zaidan (BM #19) gave them their first goal five minutes into the game. Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) deftly maneuvered and scored two minutes later to make it 2-0.

Hillgrove’s goalkeeper managed to block three other shots from Bukit Merah to keep his team in the game, and Bukit Merah did not manage to add to the 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

The second period saw Hillgrove carrying on with their 2-on-1 defence to push Bukit Merah into a corner. Bukit Merah had two quick shots but they were swiftly shut down by Hillgrove’s large defender.

In the seventh minute, a stepped-up Hillgrove defence had blocked three approaching attempts from Bukit Merah.

Undeterred, Bukit Merah lingered at the half-line to aim and hustle which eventually led to a clutch third goal from Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) at the 26th minute.

Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) also took advantage of Hillgrove’s misplaced passes to score the fourth goal with less than a minute remaining to give Bukit Merah a 4-0 lead at the end of the second period.

The final period did not see Hillgrove making a comeback as Bukit Merah made it impossible for them to score a goal.

Bukit Merah dominated with precise passes, allowing Khant Ye (BM #18), Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) and Muhammad Zaidan (BM #19) to score a goal each to seal the 7-0 win.

Amirul Amsyar (BM #25) said, “We played as a team and we didn’t give up but we still have a lot more to work on. We had a lot of chances but we missed a lot and our passes were not really on point but we can still work on it.”
