Anglican High, Monday, February 6, 2017 — Anglican High School (AHS) persevered despite being down in the first quarter to make a comeback 40-31 win over Dunman High School (DHS) in the first round of the East Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

With this win, Anglican High have a perfect 3-0 record in Round 1. They defeated Bedok View 51-33 and Greenview 67-33 previously and will advance to the next round as the winner of group C.

On the other hand, Dunman High have one 46-34 win over Bedok View and play Greenview next. Dunman High have to defeat Greenview to advance into Round 2 of the Championship.

Dunman High started off the game hot. They made a few quick shots to try to widen the lead they had. Unaffected, Anglican High fought back to narrow the lead. The quarter ended with Anglican High down 9-11.

Despite that, Anglican High did not let that dampen their spirits and fought hard. With every point Dunman High scored, they answered with a shot of their own.

Anglican High managed to keep the score close and at about the halfway mark of the second quarter, their defense managed to stop Dunman High’s offense. They made use of the opportunity to score and caught up with Dunman High.

Anglican High slowed down the pace of the game and started scoring as they got into a rhythm. They took the lead by the end of the second quarter, scoring 12 points and limiting Dunman High to only seven.

Anglican High took control of the game after the second quarter and never looked back. They made use of their size and height advantage to score. Captain Jovan Wong (AHS #8) of Anglican High led the way for his team and had a game high of 17 points.

While Dunman High made efforts to chase with their 3-point shooting, they were not able to catch up. Anglican eventually outlasted Dunman High 40-31.

Anglican High’s captain Jovan Wong (AHS #8) said, “We did not do well getting back on our defense and shooting. We keep missing open shots.”

His teammate Collin Cho (AHS #32) added, “We did manage to slow the pace, make them play to our tempo. The first quarter was too rushed. We calmed down, set up our play and made them (Dunman High) play our game. We might face Dunman Sec or East View next, so we definitely need to improve on what the captain said.”
