OCBC Arena, Monday, February 6, 2017 — Ball movement and strong defence from Bowen Secondary (BS) against Anderson Secondary (AS) gave them a 77-35 victory in Round 1 of the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Nicholas Liew (BS #46) of Bowen had a game high of 14 points while his teammate Lee Yao Hong (BS #11) had 11.

This win gives Bowen a 4-1 win-loss record after having previously beaten Riverside Secondary 60-27, Yishun Secondary 60-31, Chung Cheng High (Yishun) 72-23, and losing to Christ Church Secondary 41-47. They qualify for Round 2 as second-place finishers in Group A.

On the other hand, Anderson ends with a 2-3 win-loss record after having previously beaten Riverside Secondary 55-19 and Chung Cheng High (Yishun) 45-36, while losing to Christ Church Secondary 26-41 and Yishun Secondary 42-49, marking the end of their season.

Both teams displayed strong defences and vied for many rebounds in the 1st quarter. However, Bowen’s ball movement and 3-pointers gave them an advantage over Anderson.

Anderson replied with back-to-back 3-pointers, but still ended the 1st quarter trailing Bowen 15-22.

The 2nd quarter saw Bowen pushing for a heavy defence, making Anderson turn over the ball to create several easy fastbreaks.

Anderson found their passes stolen by long Bowen arms but they retaliated with a 2-on-1 defence to block Bowen.

At half time, Bowen still led 42-25.

The 3rd quarter started with Anderson going for an aggressive offence but they were quickly put down by Bowen’s 2-to-1 defence.

However, Anderson fought to cut into Bowen’s defence and managed to claim a few free throws and points, ending the 3rd quarter down 30 points (29-59).

Bowen’s prowess shone through in the 4th quarter as they performed many crossovers, steals and scored countless layups, further widening the gap.

This was however, contested by Anderson who pressed harder for defence and blocked some of the attempts from Bowen.

Bowen eventually sealed the win with many pick and rolls and successful open layups, ending the 4th quarter 77-35 winners.
