Delta Sports Hall, Friday, May 27, 2016 — Victoria Junior College (VJC) led throughout to beat Catholic Junior College (CJC) to place third in the National A Division Floorball Championship.

It was the first time CJC had finished in the top four.

Ayesha Saadiqah (#10), Ariane Vanco (#25), Jaime Lim (#11), Audrey Tey (#9) and Carissa Ng (#14) led VJC to victory with a goal apiece, while CJC captain Rachel Tan (#22) scored the only goal for CJC.

VJC dominated the first period with their fast team plays and good ball control. They did not hesitate to shoot and bagged two goals, scored by Ayesha Saadiqah (#10) and Ariane Vanco (#25), within the first five minutes.

CJC got their chance to counter when a VJC player got called for a two-minute penalty. CJC had a strong fighting spirit and had many shot attempts but were stopped by the VJC defence and keeper, Chen Xuan Zhi (VJC #17).

With less than two minutes left, Rachel Tan (#22) soon found her way to the goal and scored the only point for CJC. This was followed by a rally of shots from VJC as Jaime Lim (#11) and Carissa Ng (#14) made one goal each to end the period 4-1.

The three-point difference did not faze CJC and they were driven to reduce the deficit. They displayed an impressive defence and did not make it easy for VJC to break in.

A few minutes into the second period, a VJC player and CJC player were each given a two minute penalty and it became a 4v4 match. However, both teams were evenly matched and unable to score.

CJC, led by captain Rachel Tan (#22), had several good runs but could not finish as their shots went wide. On defense, CJC put a lot of pressure on VJC and chased down every loose ball.

With five minutes left on the clock, Audrey Tey (VJC #9) received a pass in front of the goal and tapped the ball in with a back hand shot to gain a 4-point, 5-1 lead. CJC had a strong fighting spirit but could not match up to the fast VJC offence. The second period ended 5-1 to VJC.

VJC continued to dominate in the third period and kept possession of the ball for most of the game. However, the CJC defenders prevented them from scoring and blocked every shot. A big part of the CJC defence was the keeper Ashley Soh (#99) who saved countless shots.

VJC slowed their pace towards the end of the game to stall for time. CJC upped their offence and were more aggressive in the last few minutes. They broke through the VJC defence and had many opportunities to score.

In the last five seconds, a VJC player got called for pushing and received a two-minute penalty. This was the chance for CJC to reduce the deficit. They set up their free hit from the corner and launched a shot towards the goal. However, the VJC defenders responded instantly and blocked the shot to secure their 5-1 win.
