Yishun Sports Hall, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 — Defending champions Meridian Junior College (MJC) triumphed 5-3 over Catholic Junior College (CJC) to book their spot in the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship final.

This marks the fourth straight year that MJC have qualified for the final.

Emily Ong (MJC #88) was the top scorer in the game with two goals, with both scored in the first period.

From the left wing, Emily (MJC #88) slid the ball into the net for the first goal, inviting loud cheers from the roaring MJC crowd. A minute later, she bagged another goal from the left side of the D, giving MJC a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

The second period saw CJC upping their game. Just 48 seconds in, Rachel Tan (CJC #22) slid in CJC’s first goal, reducing the deficit to 1-2.

However, Alfie Kwa (MJC #36) restored MJC’s two-goal lead via a penalty. Teammate Janessa Kong (MJC #14) then built on the momentum and unleashed a long range shot outside the D area to make it 4-1.

Seconds later, Nichole Khoo (MJC #24) dropped a shot into the top right corner of the net to widen the score to 5-1.

CJC did not back down, with Clara Mui (CJC #9) slotting the ball into goal to make it 2-5 during a power play.

In the last period, Lim Meng Gim (CJC #12) made it 3-5 to pile some pressure on MJC but they eventually held on for the 5-3 victory.

Despite their loss, the CJC players embraced each other in a heartwarming moment after the final whistle.

In the final, MJC will face off against Yishun Junior College (YJC), who beat Victoria Junior College 3-2 in the other semi-final.

MJC and YJC had faced off in the final several times before, with YJC emerging champions in 2014 but MJC triumphing in 2013.

The final between MJC and YJC will take place at 1.45pm on Friday, May 27 at Delta Sports Hall.
