Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 – Meridian Junior College (MJC) beat Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) 3-0 for their fourth straight win in the National A Division Floorball Championship.

MJC look likely to secure a spot in the semi-finals with two remaining group matches.

For NYJC, this is their third loss in a row and will not be moving on to the semi-finals.

Fat-Hullah Bin Farid (MJC #23) led MJC to victory with two goals while Jayvis Lim (MJC #25) was responsible for the third MJC goal.

It was a close start as both teams went back and forth in the first few minutes. MJC were aggressive in offence while NYJC had an impressive defence and blocked many shots. With only five minutes left on the clock, Fat-Hullah (MJC #23) sent a long range drag shot into the net to score the first point for his team.

MJC soon found another chance to score when they were given a free hit directly in front of the goal. Fat-Hullah (MJC #23) received the pass from the corner from Muhammad Jazli (MJC #21) and immediately took a shot at the open goal for MJC to end the first period 2-0 up.

MJC scored yet another goal from a free hit to start the second period, extending their lead to 3-0. NYJC fought hard to prevent MJC from scoring any more goals, upping their defence and fighting for possession of the ball. Quek Yu Yi (#33), the NYJC keeper, was key in their defence and prevented MJC from scoring in the second period.

The third period was also scoreless as both teams were not able to get pass the keepers. NYJC had a few chances to score but MJC keeper Lutfi Nur Hakim (#86) did not let the ball past him.

MJC also prevented NYJC from attacking, stealing the ball before NYJC could bring it into their half.

Thaddeus Tan (#77), captain of MJC, said, “I think it was a very intense match right from the start. I think we were a bit nervous at the start but after each period we managed to adapt to situations and got the goal from there.

“I think there are many factors our team needs to improve on. First off, is communication between each of us and also the speed of our play. We lost our possession because we were too slow and that gave NYJC the chance to counter us.”

He added, “All the best to the other schools competing!”

MJC next face Victoria Junior College while NYJC will go up against River Valley High School. Both matches will be played on Wednesday, May 11.
