Singapore National Stadium, Friday, April 29, 2016 — Singapore Sports School (SSP) secured their 11th B Division Girls 4x400m relay title in the last 12 years at the 57th National Schools Track and Field Championships.

The quartet of Raine Oh, Addeen Idzni Bte Imran, Ismi Zakiah Bte Kashful Anwar, and Diane Pragasam, clocked 4 minutes 16.74 seconds.

Cedar Girls’ Secondary were second in 4:19.78 while Nanyang Girls’ High finished third in 4:20.14.

Ever since their school’s inception in 2004, SSP has won this event every year from 2005 onwards, with 2008 being the only exception.

The electronically-timed record for the event is 4:01.98 and was set by SSP in 2011.

Regine Ng of Cedar Girls’ took the lead in the first round, with Linnette Chua of Raffles Girls’ School (RGS) and Raine Oh of SSP chasing closely behind.

At the end of the second lap, Addeen Idzni (SSP) and Haanee Bte Hamkah of Cedar Girls’ were neck and neck, with Tan Rou Ann of Nanyang Girls’ High in third place. Ismi Zakiah of SSP took the lead in the third lap, with Raageshwari of Cedar Girls’ valiantly chasing, but to no avail.

Diane Pragasam, anchor runner of SSP, had a comfortable lead by the time she got the baton. With 200m of the race to go, she had a 20m lead over Tanisha Moghe of Cedar Girls’. Diane eventually crossed the finish line three seconds ahead.

The win also made it Diane’s fourth gold of these championships, after she had won the 200m, 400m and was also part of the SSP quartet that clinched the 4x100m relay gold earlier in the day.

“I’m happy with my 4×400 relay team! I’m so proud of my fellow runners!” said Addeen Idzni of SSP.
