Bishan Stadium, Monday, April 25, 2016 — Daphne Kwok of Victoria Junior College (VJC) leapt 11.35 metres to win the A Division girls’ triple jump gold at the 57th National Schools Track and Field Championships.

Andrea Chong of Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), who had finished sixth in the 100m hurdles, came in second behind Daphne at 11.22m, while her HCI teammate Natasha Audrey Weers, who had narrowly missed out on long jump gold two weeks ago, was third at 11.12m.

This was Daphne’s second National Schools triple jump gold, adding to her B Division victory two years ago with a 10.92m leap, while representing Cedar Girls’ Secondary.

Last year, she had only come in third in the B Division, jumping 10.69m.

At the same, it was the VJC first-year student’s second gold medal of this year’s championships, after she had also emerged victorious in the long jump two weeks ago, pipping Natasha to the gold by one centimetre.

It was Daphne’s first long jump gold, after finishing fourth (5.02m) and sixth (4.70m) in 2014 and 2015 respectively in the B Division.

Daphne’s victories could prove valuable in the context of the A girls’ divisional title race. Going into the final day of competition, VJC and HCI both sit at the top of the team standings with 139 points each.
