Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, April 11, 2016 – Raffles Institution (RI) swept past Victoria Junior College (VJC) 56-18 in the National A Division Girls Basketball Championship.
Charmaine Koh (RI #13) had a game high of 18 points.
The win improved RI to a 2-0 win-loss record while VJC drop to 1-1.
Chelsea Eng (VJC #6) sank a 3-pointer to get the scoring going but RI came right back with a Carrisia Lee (RI #7) lay up.
RI took charge of the game after that with a full court press and Charmaine Koh (RI #13) scored a layup to make it an 8-3 lead.
RI were on a roll. They intercepted balls and almost all their shots were falling. VJC struggled to bring the ball up past the half court line. By the end of the first quarter, RI had put together an 18-0 scoring streak to lead 18-3.
It took RI three minutes before they got their scoring going again in the second quarter as the VJC defense held up. A 10-point quarter gave RI a 28-10 lead at half time.
The third quarter was a slow one. Sevilla Chea (RI #14) scored the first point of the quarter two minutes into the game. Despite the large deficit, VJC did not give up, with Amelie Lim (VJC #8) stealing the ball to score two points. However, RI outscored VJC 16-4 in the quarter to lead 40-14 heading into the fourth.
RI were relentless in the final quarter, and led by 32 points (48-16) with three minutes left on the clock. They then found another eight points in the remaining minutes to seal the 56-18 win.
