Jurong West Sports Complex, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 — Dunman Secondary beat Anderson Secondary 20-13 to qualify for the final of the National B Division Netball Championship.

“I am proud of my team. They came on court with a mindset to win and fought very hard even towards the end. We are excited for the upcoming game. This is the first year we made it through to the top four. We are prepared for the fight we are going to give next week,” said Dunman captain Ariana Tan.

In the final, Dunman will take on CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) who beat Singapore Sports School in the other semi-final.

Both teams started the first quarter neck and neck, hungry for an early adventage. Anderson were aggressive on defence and intercepted many of the Dunman balls.

Dunman, realising that their long passes were too easily intercepted, changed their strategy and used shorter passes to bring the ball into the scoring zone.

The score was tied at 3-3 with 5 minutes left to the end of the quarter. Anderson scored another two points to lead 5-4 at the end of a low-scoring first quarter.

There were plenty misplaced passes and missed shots in this quarter, leaving the score unchanged at 5-4 for awhile. Nearly half the quarter passed before Dunman finally scored and tied the game at 5-5.

After that, Dunman controlled the game, keeping Anderson scoreless for the rest of the second quarter to lead 10-5 at half time.

For the first two minutes of the third quarter, Dunman outscored Anderson 3-1 to lead 13-6. Dunman scored another three points to match their second quarter output, and led 16-8 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the last quarter Dunman used many short passes, making the ball difficult to intercept.

With five minutes having passed on the clock, Dunman managed one point to lead 17-8 as Anderson fought hard but kept turning the ball over.

Dunman found themselves outscored 5-3 for the rest of the quarter but they had built up enough of a lead over the first three quarters to win the game 20-13.
