Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, April 12, 2016 – Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) triumphed over Dunman High School (DHS) 63-39 to secure a spot in the National B Division Basketball Championship Final.

SCGS remain undefeated while Dunman High previously lost to Jurong Secondary in Round 2.

SCGS next face Nanyang Girls’ High School in the final while Dunman High will go up against Jurong in the 3rd/4th placing game

Patricia Orenza (#7) led SCGS to victory with a game high of 27 points while Gladys Lim (#6) and Tabitha Tay (#11) from Dunman High scored 10 points each.

The first quarter saw SCGS pressure Dunman High with a full court defense. SCGS soon pulled away with their tight defense. Dunman High made many poor passes which resulted in multiple turnovers, allowing SCGS to build a 9-point, 20-11 lead at the end of the quarter.

Dunman High started the second quarter with a fast break layup by Lim Zhi Jia (#10). They tightened their defence and forced SCGS to shoot from far. SCGS was unfazed by this and relied on their sharp shooting to counter the defence.

Both teams traded baskets and seemed on equal footing until Patricia Orenza (#7) and Aisling Lum (#9) shot two consecutive 3-pointers to give SCGS an impressive 15-point, 30-15 lead.

Dunman High managed to reduce the deficit towards the end by cutting through the SCGS defense to score. Despite their efforts, SCGS continued to lead 36-23 at the end of the second quarter.

The third quarter saw both teams going back and forth without a point in the starting minutes. Aisling Lum (#9) from SCGS broke the monotony with yet another 3-pointer to extend the lead.

Dunman High upped their defence with a full court press. Their efforts paid off as SCGS fumbled under pressure and had a few turnovers. Dunman decreased the deficit to seven points (38-45) to end the third quarter.

The last quarter was a display of SCGS dominance as they went on an 8-0 run to start the quarter to make it 58-37. Dunman managed only four points in the final quarter, and Patricia Orenza (#7) dropped a final 3-pointer to give SCGS a 63-39 win.
