Meridian Junior College, Tuesday, March 22, 2016 — Innova Junior College (IJC) held a 1-0 lead against NUS High at half-time after a strike from Ryan Tan (#11) but the National A Division Football Championship match was abandoned due to lightning.

Both teams started the match slowly with only a few chances created in the opening 10 minutes as neither side wanted to give ball possession away too cheaply.

IJC did have the chance to break the deadlock after 20 minutes when a series of rapid passing between Hunzairah (#24), Aqil (#7) and Amire (#23), ended with a shot by Amire (#23) that failed to test the reflexes of the NUS High goalkeeper Mahadir (#1).

IJC soon got the opening goal from Ryan (#11) after the left-winger directed the ball into the right bottom corner of the goal, leaving Mahadir (#1) rooted.

NUS High responded more aggresively with a series of counter attacks to level the game, pouring forward each time they dispossessed the IJC outfield players. But they could not find the net before half-time.

As it stands, IJC will hold a slight 1-0 advantage in the return fixture, but the attacking style of NUS High could prove detrimental to their hopes of securing all three points in their opening match.

In other Group C matches, there were opening wins for Raffles Institution (RI), Nanyang Junior College (NYJC), Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) [ACS(I)], and Victoria Junior College (VJC).

RI beat ACS (International) 1-0, NYJC defeated Anderson Junior College 2-0, ACS(I) saw off National Junior College 3-0, and VJC had a slim 1-0 win over ACS (International).
