Republic Polytechnic, Monday, March 7, 2016 – Anderson Secondary (AND) defeated CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent (SJC) 32-26 to secure a spot in the North Zone B Division Netball Championship final.
CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent had previously won all three matches in round 2 and were top of their group. Anderson on the other hand, came into this game with a 2-1 win-loss record after losing 14-32 to Singapore Sports School.
Anderson were quick to take the lead with their fluid team plays and fast passes. Both Lim Wanqi (AND GS) and Tan Xuan Yuan (AND GA) displayed prolific shooting to help their team gain a six-point lead at the end of the quarter.
SJC turned the tables during the second quarter with an impressive defence that prevented Anderson from bringing the ball into the attacking half. Thanks to accurate shots by Ariel (GS), who converted four out of five shot attempts, SJC managed to outscore Anderson 7-3 in that quarter.
Despite the better performance by SJC in the second quarter, Anderson still held the lead at 14-12 to start the third. Both teams went back and forth, trading baskets and were evenly matched.
Anderson finally pulled away in the last quarter. Their solid defense allowed them to intercept many passes and gain possession. A late surge by SJC saw them quickly bagging points to narrow the gap. However, it was too late to reduce the deficit and Anderson emerged victorious, 32-26.
Jamie Lim (GD), captain of Anderson, said, “I think we did well in the first quarter but not so well in the second and third. Today the passes flowed really well and the shots were great. I am proud of my team.”
She added, “I think we need to improve on our stamina and game flow because we did not do so well in the second and third quarter so we need to maintain till the end.”
Anderson next face Singapore Sports School to fight for the title while SJC will go up against Singapore Chinese Girls’ School for the 3rd/4th placing.
