Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 — Defending champions Catholic High School (CHS) bounced back from defeat and overpowered Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) 9-0 in round 2 of the National B Division Floorball Championship.

Owen Wong (#86) scored a hat-trick while Gabriel Chan (#70) and Dillon Ng (#18) added two apiece for the defending champions in the game.

CHS lost their previous game to Victoria School – in a repeat of the 2015 National B Division Floorball final matchup which CHS won 4-2 – and will likely need to win the rest of their 2nd round matches to qualify for the semi-finals.

ACS Barker lost for the second time in round 2 and their hopes of a top 4 finish are all but over.

With regards to the performance of his team, Dillon Ng (CHS #18) commented, “We played as we planned so it was not too bad. I hope that we can maintain this level of intensity and performance for the rest of the season.”

Owen Wong (CHS #86) got the ball rolling for the defending champs with a close range finish just 47 seconds after face-off.

The floodgates opened thereafter, as Owen Wong (CHS #86) added another via a rebound before Louis Lee (#20) extended the lead to 4-0 with an opportunistic shot. Cheang Jia Qing (CHS #83) and Dillon Ng (CHS #18) then scored in the final minute of the 1st period as CHS raced into a 6-0 lead after one.

CHS looked like they would run away with the match, but 2-minute team penalties were surprisingly the story of the 2nd period.

Gabriel Chan (CHS #70) and Andre Lim (CHS #16) were temporarily thrown out of the game for the defending champions. ACS Barker only had two outfield players at one point, as Abdul Jaleel (ACSBR #7) and Timothy Lim (ACSBR #55) were simultaneously penalised in the period.

Apart from the disciplinary issues faced by both teams, Dillon Ng (CHS #18) added to the defending champions’ lead via an assist from Gabriel Chan (CHS #70), as the team in red led 7-0 after two periods played.

Darren Chan (CHS #15) was twice slapped with 2-minute penalties in the 3rd period but it did not matter. Owen Wong (#86) scored his third goal with another close range finish before captain Gabriel Chan (#70) put the icing on the cake with a long range effort.

CHS saw out the match comfortably and got their campaign back on track with a 9-0 victory. They next face Bukit Merah while ACS Barker will next play Victoria School. Both game will be played at Hougang Sports Hall on Monday, March 21.
