Delta Sports Hall, Monday, February 29, 2016 — Key players Dinesh Rajandhran (#2) and Sherman Seet (#11) poured in 26 points each as Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) claimed a convincing 91-72 victory over National Junior College (NJC) in the South Zone B Division Basketball Semi-final.

Big man Lavin Raj (#10) added 13 points for ACS Barker in the victory while Belkham Low (#71) scored a team-high 21 points for NJC.

ACS Barker improved to 9-0 for the season with the win and will contest for the South Zone title for the fifth straight year.

Dinesh (#2) got ACS Barker’s offense going early on, putting up 12 points in the 1st quarter to outscore the entire NJC team in the quarter, helping his team to an important 21-9 led after one.

Midway through the 2nd quarter, Sherman (#11) sank two free-throws to put ACS Barker up by 20 points.

NJC responded immediately through Seow Wei Xuan (NJC #3), who knocked down two straight 3-pointers to cut ACS Barker’s lead to 14. The 2nd quarter was closely fought with ACS Barker taking a 44-28 heading into the 3rd quarter.

NJC threatened a comeback as Seow Wei Xuan (NJC #3) and Huang Yifan (NJC #22) hit back-to-back treys early in the 3rd quarter to cut the deficit to 11 points, the closest they got since the 1st quarter.

ACS Barker came roaring back behind some impressive plays by Sherman (ACSBR #11) and Ram (ACSBR #30) as both teams matched each other to score 25 points in the quarter. ACS Barker though still held a 16-point lead heading into the final quarter.

Out of a timeout with 8:05 to go in the game, ACS Barker went on a 17-7 run in a 6:30 span to blow the lead up to 29, their largest of the game. The run included two monster blocks in a row by Lavin (ACSBR #10) which brought the impressed crowd to their feet.

NJC ended the game on a 10-0 run but it proved too late as ACS Barker advanced to the final courtesy of a 91-72 success. ACS Barker will play Yuying Secondary in the Championship Game at 2.45pm on Thursday, March 4 at Delta Sports Hall. Yuying advanced to the final after putting up a dominant 4th quarter display to dispatch Guangyang Secondary.

This will be ACS Barker’s fifth South Zone final on the bounce and they will be looking for a better outcome having lost the last two finals.
