Republic Polytechnic, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 – Evergreen Secondary (EVG) edged out Serangoon Secondary (SS) 30-12 in the North Zone B Division Netball Championship to qualify for the second round.
Evergreen improved to a 5-1 win-loss record, having lost only to CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent (SJC) so far. As for Serangoon, they ended their season with a 4-2 win loss record.
The height of Evergreen’s Goal Shooter (GS) Yu Xian proved to be a great advantage for her as most of her attempts were successfully converted.
In the first quarter, two consecutive shots made by Yu Xian (EVG GS) started the game. Serangoon replied immediately with a few shots.
The first and second quarter saw a close fight, with Serangoon trailing by five points entering the second half of the game.
Coming into the third quarter, the players of Serangoon started to show signs of fatigue. They started losing pace and fell away from the game. The last two quarters were thus a low scoring affair for them, as they only managed to garner three points in total.
Evergreen then wrapped up the game with a 30-12 win.
Evergreen captain Yolanda said, “We were already aiming for top eight since last year, and thus we really put in a lot of effort into training. We knew if we put in 100 per cent effort, we would really win. Although we made many mistakes, I think this is a moment that we would really cherish.”
