Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 – East Spring Secondary (ESS) triumphed 6-4 over Kent Ridge Secondary (KRS) in round 1 of the National B Division Floorball Championship.

With the victory, East Spring bagged their fourth win of the season. They are currently at the top of their group and are guaranteed a spot in the second round. Kent Ridge, however, have lost their chance to qualify for the second round after previously losing to Orchid Park 4-6.

East Spring’s Abdul Hadi (#50) and Kent Ridge’s Jarell Ong (#11) scored two goals each.

Kent Ridge started strong with a goal scored by Ho Teng Wei (#3) in the first period. East Spring made many shot attempts to equalise but Kent Ridge’s defence was solid and blocked most shots.

With 3 minutes left on the clock, Lee Jian Hao (#17) from East Spring made a shot which deflected against the defender’s stick to score. It seemed as though it would be a close fight as the first period ended 1-1.

East Spring turned the tables in the second period and scored three goals, with Abdul Hadi (#50) scoring two of them. Kent Ridge tried to catch up and made numerous shot attempts but they all went wide. It was only during the last few seconds when Kent Ridge’s Nicholas Ang (#9) scored a goal from the slot area.

With East Spring in the lead, Kent Ridge played more aggressively in the third period in hopes of making a comeback. However, a two-minute penalty was given to Joel Wong (#13) for pushing.

It was a close fight in the third period as both teams managed to score two goals each. However, Kent Ridge were unable to equalise as the game ended with the final score 6-4.

East Spring have played all matches in the preliminary round and won all but one where they drew with Raffles Institution.

Kent Ridge have an upcoming match against Shuqun Secondary. Unfortunately, they are unable to qualify for the second round and can only hope to end the season on a high with a win against Shuqun.
