OCBC Arena, Monday, February 15, 2016 — National Junior College (NJC) emerged victorious over Raffles Institution (RI) 41-36 in the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship. It was their second consecutive win in Round 2.
As for RI, it was their first loss in Round 2 after triumphing over Gan Eng Seng previously.
Huang Yifan (NJC #22) had a game high of 16 points while Liu Jia Wei (RI #7) had a team high of 13.
Raffles Institution showed their flair for 3-pointers as they bagged three of them in the opening quarter. This allowed them to take a 10-8 lead after the first 10 minutes.
A half court shot by Reuben Yang (RI #14) evoked cries of astonishment from the audience in the second quarter but it was NJC who outscored RI 11-7 to lead by two points at half time.
Both teams upped their game in the third quarter. An aggressive RI outscored NJC 6-2 but still trailed by two (21-23) heading into the fourth quarter.
With just 3 minutes left on the clock in the final quarter, the teams were tied at 31-31. At this crucial moment, Liu Jia Wei (RI #7) made a 3-pointer to give RI a lead.
However, the RI lead disappeared when, with just a minute left, NJC bagged six points in a 20-second span to wrap up the 41-36 win.
Nicholas Gao (NJC #99), the NJC captain, said, “I think that it was a very good effort by us as we all put in a lot of hard work. We were really very motivated throughout the whole game. I think it really paid off in the end.”

Hello, your roster is wrong. I’ve been waiting days for this article and there are so many mistakes in it. Secondly, you made a mistake about the NJC captain, it’s not Nicholas
Your comment would be a lot more helpful if you can tell us specifically what the mistakes are. That way we can change it.
Telling us who the captain isn’t does not really help. Why don’t you tell us who the captain is then?
Nicholas is the Captain of the team. What are you talking about?
