Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, February 12, 2016 – Christ Church Secondary overcame Woodgrove Secondary 56-34 to kick-start their second round campaign with a victory in the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Valentia Wong (#7) led the way for Christ Church on the scoring board with 24 points in the victory, while Celest Koh (#6) had a team-high 13 points for Woodgrove.

Christ Church came out of the gate in the opening period with an aggressive half-court press, forcing Woodgrove into committing turnovers and backcourt violations. This led to easy fast break points for Christ Church and empty possessions for Woodgrove.

On offense, Christ Church attacked the paint aggressively, drawing fouls which earned them free throws as well as getting easy points in the paint. As a result, Christ Church seized a 15-7 lead at the end of the first period.

In the second quarter, Woodgrove struck back as they approached the game with an aggressive mentality on the offensive end, attacking the paint for points in the paint and drawing fouls for points at the free throw line.

However, Woodgrove struggled on the defensive end as they gave up offensive rebounds to Christ Church, allowing Christ Church to score second chance points. At half-time, Christ Church pulled away to lead 31-17.

The third period was where Woodgrove had their best defensive performance in the match, where they implemented an aggressive full court press which led to easy fast break points off turnovers by Christ Church. As a result, Woodgrove only allowed Christ Church to score 12 points in the period.

However, Woodgrove were unable to pace Christ Church offensively, as they struggled with making shots at a high percentage to trim the deficit. Going into the final period, Christ Church led 43-28.

Determined to seal the game, Christ Church went on a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 20 points as they turned up a notch offensively with fluid ball movement finding them good looks at the hoop.
