OCBC Arena, Friday, February 12, 2016 — Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) (ACS(BR)) defeated Peicai Secondary (PS) 72-30 in the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

This is ACS(BR)’s first win of Round 2, after coming out top in their Round 1 grouping.

ACS(BR)’s Dinesh (#2) scored a game high of 20 points while Peicai Sec’s Nicholas Lim (#7) led his team with 8 points.

ACS(BR) got the ball after tipoff and Ram (#30) scored a 3-pointer, the first basket of the game. This set the tone for the first two quarters as Peicai’s tight zone defense forced ACS(BR) to attempt shots near the 3-point line.

ACS(BR) played full court press in the first two quarters but Peicai managed to break through their defense and score quite a few baskets. The 1st quarter ended with ACS(BR) leading 27-9.

When ACS(BR)’s Lavin (#10) was subbed into the game in the 2nd quarter, he was able to use his considerable size and height to easily receive the ball from his teammates and score a few under-basket shots.

Not only that, his height also enabled him to catch most of the defensive rebounds from Peicai and his team were able to score quite a few fast-breaks. This allowed ACS(BR) to further widened the gap to lead 41-11 at half time.

The 3rd quarter saw ACS(BR) abandoning their full court press and playing a 3-point zone defense for the rest of the game. This allowed them to tighten their defense and they managed to intercept a few balls from Peicai and score quite a few fast-breaks.

Not to be outdone, Peicai also tightened their defense and they managed to catch quite a few defensive rebounds and score a few fast-breaks, though ACS(BR) still led 56-18 by the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter, Peicai turned their attack up a notch. Their continuous swinging around of the ball made ACS(BR) slightly careless in their defense. Peicai took advantage of ACS(BR) carelessness and managed to drive in and score a few baskets. This only slightly reduced the point difference and ACS(BR) took home the 72-30 win.

When asked about the performance of his team, ACS(BR)’s captain, Ram (#30) said, ‘My team has improved on their rebounding and also their transitional offense but we still needs to improve on our full court defense. I hopes that my team will train harder and play better for the next game.’
