Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, January 12, 2016 – Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) overwhelmed Yishun Town Secondary (YTS) 50-17 to start the second round of the North Zone B Division Championship.
Shannon Tiong (#11) from SCGS had a game high of 11 points while Yishun Town’s Nur Sabrina (#7) led her team with 6 points.
It was intense from the tip off as both teams went back and forth without scoring in the first 3 minutes. The first basket went to SCGS when Shannon Tiong (#15) sank a shot from under the basket.
SCGS utilised their strong defence to intercept and scored mainly on fast breaks and led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter.
SCGS continued to keep their lead with fluid teamwork and fast plays. Nevertheless, Yishun Town did not give up and continued to fight as the bench cheered loudly for the team during both offense and defence.
Spurred on by cheers from their teammates, Yishun Town started the last quarter with a 3-pointer by Poh Rui Han (#11). However, SCGS dominated with 3-pointers of their own through Patricia Orenza (#7) and Larissa Lim (#5).
SCGS scored the most points in the last quarter, outscoring Yishun Town 19-5 to win the game 50-17.
SCGS captain, Rachel Yeo (#13), said, “I think the team’s fighting spirit was very strong today and Yishun Town did not give up and they managed to pressure us.”
She added, “I think the team needs to focus on finishing. We went up against Yishun Town before and I feel that this was one of our better games so I’m very proud.”
