Clementi Sports Hall, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 — Assumption English School (AES) overwhelmed Westwood Secondary (WWS) 49-22 in the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship. AES improve to a 4-1 win-loss record. As for Westwood, this was their third loss.

Stanley Goh (WWS #8) had a game high of 17 points while Jeremy Ooi (AES #6) had a team high of 12.

Westwood struggled in the first and second quarter to keep pace with AES. The great defense of AES caused Westwood to have many of their shots intercepted midway. As such, they only managed to score a total of 3 points in the first two quarters. AES, on the contrary, had a strong start as they sunk 3 3-pointer shots into the basket in just the first quarter.

The third and last quarter saw a fierce comeback by Westwood as they stepped up their game and fought back more aggressively. Stanley Goh Jia Jun (WW #8) was the team’s star as he led his team into scoring. This allowed them to tie with AES in the third quarter 9-9 and outscore AES in the final quarter 10-8.

The attempt was commendable, but insufficient as AES eventually wrapped up the game with a 49-22 victory, with their excellent play throughout the entire game.

Toh Guo Yi (AES #10), Captain of AES said, ‘I think our team did quite well in the defensive and offensive. However, I still think we need work on our threes, because only Jeremy (AES #6) is scoring the threes, so there is still a lack of 3-pointers. Our opponent showed a very good fighting spirit, as they did not give up in the fight even though they were lacking behind. It was a good game overall today.’
