Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, January 29, 2016 — Maintaining their strong performance in the season so far, Christ Church Secondary (CHR) put up an engaging display as they defeated Woodlands Secondary (WSS) 65-18 to claim their fourth win in the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Joshner (CHR #7) led with a game high of 14 points, while Choo Boon Kee (WSS #12) led his team with nine.

Joshner (CHR #7) kickstarted the first quarter with a three-pointer, which was followed swiftly by a basket from Jonathan (CHR #11) and then yet another successful shot by Josher (CHR #7). Their consecutive shots gave Christ Church an 11-0 lead by the end of the fourth minute.

Christ Church’s man-to-man defence and quick offensive bounds prevented their opponent from getting successful shots in, resulting in a 25-0 lead by the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw Boon Kee (WSS #12) finally breaking past the Christ Church defence, and scoring Woodland’s first points with an underbasket shot. Boon Kee went on to score six out of his team’s eight points in the quarter, two of which were from free throws. However, Christ Church managed to further widen their lead to 46-8 by half time.

Despite the deficit, Woodlands tried their best. Jonathan (WSS #11) impressed with a three-pointer from the side. With baskets from teammates Boon Kee (WSS #12) and Shengwei (WSS #5), they managed to score another eight points in the third quarter.

However, the Christ Church team were able to maintain their lead with consistent scoring, including a three-pointer from Calvin (CHR #8).

Both teams were visibly exhausted as the minutes ticked down in the final quarter, with missed baskets and turnovers. Final minute baskets from Shengwei (WSS #5) and De En (CHR #14) wrapped up the game.

Christ Church captain Kaiyao (#10) said, “I think we did quite well for defence. We also kept up the good work from our previous match (against Presbyterian High). However, I think we need to improve on our shots and interceptions.”
