Republic Polytechnic, Friday, January 29, 2016 – Singapore Sports School dominated Riverside Secondary 56-6 in the North Zone B Division Netball Championship.

The victory gives Singapore Sports School (SSP) a 3-0 win-loss record to place them at the top of their group with 9 points. This is Riverside’s second loss in round 1 and they also drew with Marsiling 18-18.

SSP started strong in the first quarter, sticking to their opponents and intercepting passes. Riverside tried making lob passes to counter their defence but were unsuccessful and did not manage to score in that quarter.

Besides a strong defence, SSP also dominated in their offence with swift passes and good teamwork. SSP’s Goal Shooter (GS), Cherylyn Kuan, scored 11 out of the 15 goals in the first quarter.

Riverside were determined to score and came back stronger in the second quarter. They managed to make two baskets thanks to their Goal Attack (GA) Amirah.

Riverside’s GA and GS were both sharp shooters and never missed a shot. However, they did not have many chances to score as the ball seldom made it into their attacking third.

SSP never faltered and were not complacent despite their large lead while Riverside fought hard till the end.

Wah Tzy Hyi, captain of SSP, said, “I think the game today was really what we planned out to be. We really stuck to our tempo and everything went well. Even though there were some bad passes, we still managed to get back on track and support each other throughout.

“Definitely, there are many things to improve on and I think we will learn a lot throughout this whole tournament.”

SSP are aiming for nothing less than gold and next face Sembawang Secondary. Riverside will go up against Yio Chu Kang Secondary.
