OCBC Arena, Friday, January 22, 2016 — Following a close first quarter, Peicai Secondary (PCS) upped their offensive gameplay to defeat Henderson Secondary (HSS) 45-30 in the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Nicholas Lim (PCS #7) had a game high of 16 points, while Lim Min Hao (HSS #9) of Henderson led his team with 10.

Peicai finished the first round with a 2-1 win-loss record and qualified for the second round in second place behind group winners Gan Eng Seng School. Henderson dropped to a 1-2 record and finished third, out of running for the second round.

The first quarter saw Chao Khon (PCS #6) score the first basket for his team, followed closely by Adrian (HSS #15) of Henderson to even out the score. The rest of the quarter saw tit-for-tat scoring, and with the tight man-to-man defence from both teams, the first quarter ended even at 6-6.

In the second quarter, Nicholas (PCS #7) stood out, scoring 10 points, including two three-pointers. With baskets from teammates Zhi Zhong (PCS #12) and Richard (PCS #11), the gap between the teams widened and Peicai led 22-14 at half time.

The third quarter saw successful free throws from Adrian (HSS #15) as well as baskets from Min Hao (HSS #9) to reduce the deficit to five points (21-26). However, Peicai pulled away again to lead by 10 points (32-22) heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Nicholas (PCS #7) scored his third three-pointer, which was matched by a three-pointer from Sheng Yang (HSS #10)

Richard (PCS #11) managed to weave through the opponents defences, scoring two baskets in the last two minutes to seal a 45-30 win for Peicai.

Peicai captain Chao Khon (#6) said, “We didn’t play very well in the first half of the match. We got plenty of offensive rebound when we attacked, and didn’t box out as we should have. Although we gave the opposing team plenty of foul-outs, towards the end we didn’t really dare to foul out.”
