OCBC Arena, Friday, January 22, 2016 – Peirce Secondary (PS) ended their season on a high with a 43-21 win against Outram Secondary (OSS) in the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

They finished third in their group with a 1-2 win-loss record while Outram dropped to 0-3. Both teams were out of the running for a second round place.

Zion James (#15) from Peirce had a game-high of 12 points while Outram’s Joshua (#4) led his team with four.

An intense start saw both teams scoring one after another. The score was tied at 4-4 before Fraser (PS #8) made a shot to give Peirce the lead. Peirce then continued to extend their lead with layups to end the first quarter ahead at 13-7.

Outram tried to catch up in the second quarter and were aggressive during defence, making it harder for Peirce to score. Outram managed to reduce the deficit to three points at 12-15 but they had a lot of turnovers which allowed Peirce to make fast break layups and score. Peirce led 19-12 at half time.

Peirce started to put pressure on Outram by starting the third quarter with a full-court press. Outram were unable to counter their strong defence and despite many shot attempts, they could not score a single basket in the third quarter as Peirce outscored them 10-0 for a 29-12 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Outram did not give up as Jaryl (OSS #10) made a jumpshot to start the last quarter, but Peirce outscored them 14-9 to win the game 43-21.

Peirce’s captain said, “We wanted to let everyone score one ball and that’s what we did. We tried that because it’s our last game and most of us are Sec 4s.”

“We showed a lot of teamwork and we had fun playing this game.”
