Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, August 18, 2015 — A strong second-half outburst from Catholic High helped them to a 68–41 victory in their first second round game of the National C Division Basketball Championship.

Four Catholic High players scored in double figures, while Presbyterian High had a game-high 17-point effort from Richie Tan (#10).

“We did it as a team,” said Catholic High captain Joshua Lim (#7).

“We made some good extra passes during our transition fast breaks and had a really good comeback after a poor first half.”

Despite taking a nine-point opening quarter lead, Catholic High saw their offence stagnate in the next 10 minutes, allowing Presbyterian High to gradually whittle down the deficit.

Led by Tan (#10), Presbyterian High mounted a 10–2 run to reduce the deficit to a single point (21–22). However, their North Zone counterparts responded through Chua Kai Xuan (#11), whose play sparked Catholic High back to a five-point lead at the break.

After play resumed, Jon Tan’s (#6) three-pointer was the catalyst for Catholic High’s run, as they overwhelmed Presbyterian High with a 22–6 run to bolster their lead. Tan (#6) finished with 15-points in the game.

In the closing quarter, Catholic High turned to Chua (#11), who was unstoppable on isolation plays. The forward’s unselfish play contributed to 15 of his team’s 20 points in the frame. Chua (#11) also tallied a team-high 15-points, en route to a 27-point victory.

“Our mis-passes led to our downfall,” said Presbyterian High captain Ibrahim (#8).

“We were pressured by Catholic High and whenever we wanted to break their full court press, we made several mis-passes.”

Despite the loss, Ibrahim (#8) had a positive outlook for the upcoming games.

“We’re going to train harder, be more aware of where the ball is, and make sure we score all our open shots.”
