Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, May 4, 2015 — Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) beat Dunman High School (DHS) 26–15 in their final group game to advance to the semi-final of the National A Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.

With this win, NYJC have won all five games and finished at the top of Group B. However, DHS finished in third place with a 3–2 win-loss record and are unable to advance to the semi-final.

Tan Li Min (#7) of NYJC led her team with a game-high nine points while Jerlin Toh (#7) and Sabrina Gao (#14) each scored four points for DHS respectively.

Both teams appeared unsettled throughout the game and failed to finish well in the paint. As a result, it was a low-scoring affair in the first half with just nine field goals between the teams.

Jerlin (#7) of DHS was the sole scorer for the first half with three points. However, a balanced NYJC led 6–3 going into the half-time break.

The third quarter saw both teams turn the ball over regularly in the first five minutes which rendered both teams scoreless. After that, NYJC increased their offensive drives and their shots started falling. Therefore, NYJC managed to extend their lead with a 7–2 scoring run to end the quarter.

Though DHS were trailing 5–13 at the start of the last quarter, it did not deter them from pressing on with the game. They remained composed and finished better in the paint. NYJC also managed to successfully convert several rebounds. Hence, both teams did well offensively to clock their highest-scoring quarter. Despite DHS’s efforts, NYJC sealed the 26–15 win to advance to the semi-final.

NYJC captain, Ong Sin Kee (#6), said, “We did not play to our best and were a little rushed in the start. Despite a few fast-break attempts, we did not finish well. We will have to work on our shooting.”

With this victory, NYJC will go on to face National Junior College in the semi-final game on Wednesday, May 13, at 3.00 p.m. at Singapore Basketball Center.
