Hougang Sports Hall, Tuesday, April 27, 2015 — Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) defeated Tampines Junior College (TPJC) 6–1 in the group stage of the National A Division Boys’ Floorball Championship.

A goal from Kirk Tang (#69) gave NYJC an early lead. Additionally, swift interceptions from NYJC gave them a few more opportunities at goal than TPJC.

TPJC defended as a team and counter-attacked in a bid for an equaliser. TPJC keeper, Darwisy Abdul Rahman (#1), made multiple good saves to foil NYJC’s attacks.

However, a momentary lapse in defence gave Donavan Tan (#71) sufficient space to extend NYJC’s lead.

Just before the end of the period, Ruel Tan (#22) scored a goal for TPJC to narrow the deficit. This was TPJC’s only goal of the match.

The second period saw multiple quick exchanges in possession. Neither side were able to connect passes to pose a threatening offence.

Foo Yong Cheng (#10) of NYJC eventually broke through the TPJC defence to score the third goal for NYJC. This was closely followed by another goal from his teammate, Andre Gwa (#81).

TPJC put up a stronger attack in the second and third period. However, their shots at goal were mostly off-target or not powerful enough to pose a threat.

In the final period, Lai Shu Wei (#9) pushed in a shot from the corner to continue NYJC’s scoring streak. Kirk Tang (#69) controlled a high ball and flicked it in for NYJC’s last goal.

After that, TPJC played a very defensive game to limit the damage, giving NYJC players completely no space to turn. The match concluded in a 6–1 victory in favour of NYJC.

“I think TPJC actually posed a very big challenge for us and that it was a very good match between the both of us. I think they played well also,” said NYJC captain, Justin Chen (#12).

He added, “As we have lost the previous game (against Anglo-Chinese Junior College), I felt that this game was crucial for us to gain back our confidence in the division and hopefully, this will give my team confidence for the future matches as well.”

This is NYJC’s third win in four matches. NYJC will be playing against Meridian Junior College on May 4 at 1.30 p.m. while TPJC will be playing their final match against Anglo-Chinese Junior College on May 5 at 4 p.m. Both matches will be played at Hougang Sports Hall.
