Singapore Sports School, Friday, April 24, 2015 — Hwa Chong Institution finished the A Division girls’ 4x400m relay race with a personal best timing of 4 minutes and 10.29 seconds to win another gold at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.

The quartet of Claudia Sng (#179), Carys Hor (#184), Naomi Louise Tan (#195) and Pan Xin-Min (#199) came into the final with the fastest qualifying time of 4:17.17.

“We came here today to do our best and most importantly, have fun and enjoy the running process,” said Hor.

Pan added, “We’re really pleased because this was not the original team that we had planned to have, and we’re glad that it turned out really well.”

While HCI had the obvious lead throughout the race, the first runners-up were only decided in the final metre.

Raffles Institution’s (RI) Nur Haidah (#94) and Victoria Junior College’s (VJC) Janine Lim (#122) were neck-and-neck in the final 100 metres, but Haidah’s final push helped RI clinch the silver medal by a hair’s breadth. VJC finished just 0.16 seconds behind to complete the podium.

HCI’s victory bolstered their hold on the top spot in the divisional rankings, as they finished with 223 total points and took home the A Division girls’ challenge trophy. VJC finished 28 points behind in second, while RI settled for third place with 139 points.
