Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 — Au Yee Sin of Catholic Junior College (CJC) did not have the fastest start in the A Division girl’s 100m final at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships. However, her increased pace in the last few metres propelled her to first place with a timing of 12.96 seconds, only a hundredth of a second faster than second place.

“I felt very uncertain because it was close during the heats and semis,” said Yee Sin. “My coach told me that it depended on the start so I tried to focus on that.”

Yee Sin faced strong competitors like 100m hurdles champion, Laura Tan of Raffles Institution.

“I was hoping to get first, but at the same time expecting to get a second,” Yee Sin added.

Unfortunately, her result was 0.08 seconds off her 12.88s personal best timing that was established earlier in the heats.

In her last National Inter-School Track and Field Championships, Hwa Chong Institution’s Naomi Tan, who clocked a time of 12.97s, was forced to settle for the silver medal. She had earlier clinched the A Division girls’ 100m hurdles silver medal as well. Third was Jerrine Lim of Anglo-Chinese Junior College, who finished in 13.20s.

The electronically-timed meet record of the A Division girls’ 100m is held by Anglo-Chinese Junior College alumna Tan Shieh Li, who set it at 12.37s. The record remains untouched since 1999. The hand-timed record of the A Division girls’ 100m stands at 12.20s, set by Prema Govindan, then of Ang Mo Kio Secondary, in 1999.
