Bukit Gombak Stadium, Monday, April 20, 2015 — Ow Yeong Wei Bin (#274) of Hwa Chong Institution came in first place in the A Division boys’ 400m hurdles at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships with a timing of 55.54 seconds.

Wei Bin’s last burst in the final 10 metres of the race put him ahead of Raffles Institution’s Kelvin Quek (#152), who finished just 1.30 seconds behind.

“I feel quite heartened that I actually won because I had a strong competitor in Calvin. I was very nervous before the start of the race because I knew it was going to be a close fight between Calvin and I,” said Wei Bin.

The bronze medal went to Jared Chang (#197) of Victoria Junior College with a timing of 58.27 seconds.

The meet record is held by Wei Bin’s elder brother, Ow Yeong Yu Xiang, who has since graduated from Hwa Chong Institution. Yu Xiang set the record of 54.56 seconds in 2013.
