Clementi Sports Hall, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 — Dunman Secondary pulled away in the third period to secure the 53–41 win over Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) for the third place in the National B Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.

Amanda Phua (Dunman #7) finished with a game-high 15 points, with all of her points coming from three-point range. Opponents SCGS had a few impressive scorers in Tiana Ng (SCGS #5), Aisling Lum (SCGS #9) and Caroline Gregory (SCGS #11). The girls scored 11, 10 and 10 points respectively.

The first basket came from Kattleya Anne (Dunmman #5) after a brief scramble from both teams. SCGS followed suit with a jumper and a lay-up respectively by Briana Lee (SCGS #8) and Caroline Gregory (SCGS #11).

The full court press from SCGS did not work well early in the game against a poised point guard in Nur Khaliesah (Dunman #9). She identified loopholes and found open teammates in the offense, making SCGS pay with several easy baskets.

Meanwhile, SCGS struggled on offence, committing several turnovers and unnecessary fouls. Amanda Phua (Dunman #7) ended off the quarter with a three-pointer to put Dunman ahead 12–6.

Dunman pulled away in the second and third period with Nur Khaliesah (Dunman #9) utilising her speed for a few easy lay-ups. Amanda Phua (Dunman #7) scored two out of her game-high five three-pointers in the third quarter to give Dunman a comfortable double digit lead going into the fourth quarter.

SCGS came back with a late surge with a much improved full court press to force umpteen Dunman turnovers and converting them. However, the lead built up by Dunman in the second and third quarter proved a little too tough for SCGS to overcome.

Dunmman eventually won the game to emerge as second runners-up, making up for the heartbreaking lost in the semi-final against Nanyang Girls’ High which crushed their title hopes.
