Bukit Gombak Stadium, Friday, April 17, 2015 — In his first 800m race under the A Division boys’ category, 17-year-old Mark Llewellyn Lim (#149) of Raffles Institution clocked a time of 2 minutes and 3.93 seconds to clinch the title at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.

Due to a congested first lane, Lim was forced to run and complete the race on the outer lanes in the final 200 metres.

While it may seem as a disadvantage to many, given the fact that the RI boy had to cover more ground to make the final turn, he chose to see it as “an advantage”.

“I’m very happy for this win,” said Lim, who set a new personal best time with his finish.

“Because I had previously missed the gold by one position in the 400 metres final, I was very determined to get my first gold at this year’s Nationals, and I did it.”

Victoria Junior College’s Sherman Lim (#208) took home the silver medal with a time of 2:04.78, while Dai Nan Tian (#251) of Hwa Chong Institution finished in third place in 2:05.17.

The electronically-timed A Division boys’ 800m record of 1:57.10, set in 2011, is held by Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) alumnus Zachary Ryan Devaraj. S. Pandian holds the hand-timed record of 1:54.50, which he set in 1985 while running for Boys’ Town Vocational Institute.
